NFL execs, scouts, coaches and members of the media made the trek to Laramie in late March to watch quarterback Josh Allen’s pro day. It was another opportunity for Allen to showcase what he could do with his newly improved footwork- after spending the winter working with quarterback guru Jordan Palmer. Allen once again proved he had one of – if not the strongest – arms of the quarterbacks eligible for the 2018 NFL draft. He threw footballs over 60 yards with ease on several occasions. Allen also showed his mobility. As MMQB’s Andy Benoit pointed out,
“It’s those very feet, however, that could push him to the top of a team’s board. It gets overshadowed by his arm, but Allen’s mobility is terrific. He can keep the ball on the ground by design or improvisation. This applies to the running game and passing game. Allen’s arm stays strong when he gets outside the pocket (particularly when moving to his right) and he eagerly attacks tight windows along the sidelines. Scrambles are possible, too; at 6′ 5″, 240 pounds, Allen can endure hits and shed would-be tacklers. This is also true in the pocket, where Allen sometimes looks Roethlisbergian.”
The pro day was Allen’s last ‘public’ viewing before the 2018 NFL Draft in early April. Judging by the positive comments and excitement generated by his work out in the indoor practice facility, we’d expect Allen will have a good shot of being drafted in the top ten.
